Shooting — Robert Spence wins gold

Robert Spence was Orkney’s gold-medal winner, taking first place in the men’s 50m prone smallbore rifle with a score of 615.6. He also won bronze in the men’s 50m three-position rifle. His performance made shooting one of Orkney’s most successful sports at Gibraltar and continued the island’s strong record in rifle competition.

Athletics — Taylah Spence and the women’s relay

Taylah Spence won silver in the women’s 200m in 24.65 seconds. Orkney’s women’s 4 × 400m relay team also secured silver in 3:58.34, while the women’s 4 × 100m relay team finished fourth. The three athletics medals demonstrated the strength of Orkney’s female sprinters and relay runners, with team cohesion proving particularly important.

Swimming — a valuable silver medal

Orkney’s swimming contingent contributed one silver medal to the overall tally. Although the island did not match the medal totals of larger swimming delegations, this result ensured that Orkney won medals in three different sports, demonstrating that its success was not limited to athletics and shooting.

Beyond the medal table

Orkney competed in eight sports: athletics, badminton, cycling, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming and triathlon. The team also recorded encouraging results outside its medal-winning events. The women’s 4 × 100m relay finished fourth in 48.49 seconds, narrowly missing another athletics medal, while the men’s 4 × 100m relay placed seventh. In sailing, Joshua Brown finished 23rd in the Laser Radial and George Leslie 19th in the Laser Standard.
