Orkney Athletic Club has existed in its current form since 1997. Based at the Pickaquoy Centre, a multi-use sports facility in Kirkwall, the Club currently has around 130 Junior Members (9 -18 years) and 40 Senior Members. Juniors train twice or three times per week. The adult membership has grown rapidly in recent years and the Club is currently developing its adult offer.
The Club hosts two or three Home Open Competitions over the summer season at the Pickaquoy Centre, and members travel regularly to compete elsewhere across Scotland. ThePickaquoy Centre has a floodlit track and facilities for field events including long jump, high jump, javelin, shot putt and cricket ball. Options for installing a Throws Cage to enable participation in a wider range of events are being explored.
Orkney Athletic Club also organises a 10k race series over the summer, staging 4 races with local communities in different parts of Orkney.
