The Orkney Island Games Association has given formal notice that it intends to make a bid to host the Games in ten years time. Local chairman Ross Donaldson has contacted Jorgen Pettersson, Chair of the international association, to inform him of the decision – following a meeting of the local committee late last week. Orkney made two unsuccessful bids to host the games in 1989, and again in 1991. But, Ross Donaldson says things have moved forward considerably in the past two decades, with a major investment in facilities. Shetland’s Games Association has already voiced its support for the local plans.
