Four members of the Orkney Archery Team competed in the Northern Area open Championship on the 9th and 10th of June. Robert Craigie, Helen Corsie, Jim Middlemas and Stewart Stanger attended the competition held in Banchory.
The mild weather conditions for the 2 day shoot helped the competitors to achieve some high scores over the weekend. This was Robert Craigie’s first experience at a competition but he was in the capable hands of veterans Jim, Helen and Stewart looking after him. Helen Corsie achieved a personal best on the first day then scored even higher on the second day, having been working hard since the Gotland Island Games to improve her shooting. There was a high standard of scoring by all with Jim Middlemas winning bronze medal in men’s recurve and Stewart Stanger won Northern Area open and championship in the gent’s compound discipline. This is the fourth time that Stewart has won the Northern Area Championship.
