Orkney Represented at Games AGM

Orkney Island Games Association Chairman Robbie Fraser and Vice Chair Lee Thomson have just arrived back from the 2015 games preview visit in Jersey. During the two day trip they saw all the venues to be used next year and they’ve reported back to the local committee. Most of the venues are ready to go with some of the others due to be refurbished over the winter. In particular the track at the athletics stadium is to be renewed and extra grandstands will be installed there. Meanwhile seating in the swimming venue looks to be in short supply. Robbie and Lee also attended the AGM which saw several by-law changes. They can be found on the IIGA website. It was also a chance to meet the incoming Secretary Andy Varnom who will take over from Kay Batty in August. Unfortunately it has also been confirmed that both the Orkney men’s and women’s football teams have withdrawn from next years event. Here’s hoping that they’re able to make Gotland in 2017!
