Orkney Record for Games Swimmer

Orkney swimmer and Bermuda triathlon gold medallist Bobby Oag has claimed a new Orkney swimming record – beating a time set twenty one years ago. Competing for Stromness in the annual Selkie Goblet competition, Bobby clocked 1.00.84 in the 100m Butterfly – breaking the previous record set by Pete Burgon in 1993 by nearly a second. Bobby took individual gold in the triathlon at the 2013 NatWest Island Games before competing in the pool during the rest of the week. He was also part of Team Orkney in Shetland in 2005 and in Rhodes in 2007. Pete Burgon, an Orkney Island Games regular in the past, is now a swimming coach in New Zealand and works with some of the country’s national squad swimmers.
