Last weekend’s Junior Inter County competition against Shetland produced some fantastic results from a young Orkney swim team, with some great PBs and close races. As well as some great swims from the younger team members (showing great promise for the future), Gotland 2017 Island Games swimmers Molly Blance, Mia McAllister and Kerris Sinclair were all on form, with some PB times, but it was Angus Blance that stole the headlines, with 5 wins and 3 new JIC records, including the long standing boys 50m breaststroke record set by another Orkney Island Games swimmer, Hanson Pottinger, in 1989. Angus also took down two Orkney Open (short course) men’s records that have stood since the early ’90s, breaking Hanson Pottinger’s 100 breast record from 1990, and Pete Burgon’s 100 IM time from 1991. Angus will be competing in his first Island Games in Gotland later this month.
